Competency Standards – a Help or a Hindrance? An Australian Perspective
The mere existence of competency standards for an occupation is not, in itself, enough to tell us whether they will be a help or a hindrance for education and training providers. Instead, that will depend on what sort of competency standards they are and how they are being used by the education and training providers. This paper will describe, firstly, the types of competency standards that would be a hindrance for vocational education and training providers and those that would be a help.

Drama Based Social Emotional Learning
This experimental study evaluates effectiveness of drama on social emotional learning.
Social-Emotional Skills Perception Scale was applied to 255 elementary fourth grades. The students who got average and below average social emotional score were selected for experimental and control group. Those groups are equal in participant (42 each) and have approximately similar means in the study.

Higher education and the Sustainable Development Goals
This special issue of Higher Education focuses on higher education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015 cover a broad range of issues related to socio-economic, environmental and techno-logical development, and apply to all of the world’s countries, and not only those normally considered to be ‘developing’ or ‘emerging’. As part of its broad remit, the SDGs expanded the focus beyond primary and secondary education to include tertiary education. This was an important move as higher education was missing from the international development agenda as evidenced by previous sets of development goals—the Millennium Development Goals and Education for All.

Investigation of The Relationships Between Lifelong Learning And Social Emotional Learning
The current research aims to investigate the relationship between lifelong learning and social emotional learning. Study group consists of 590 university students (390 females, 200 males) studying in different undergraduate programs in University of Sakarya, Faculty of Education in the Fall Term of 2015.In this research, relationships between the variables of lifelong learning and social emotional learning were investigated. Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Partial Correlation methods were utilized so as to investigate these relationships.
As consequence of the research, lifelong learning and social emotional learning scores were correlating significantly.

Social-Emotional learning and academic achievement: using causal methods to explore classroom-level mechanisms
Social-emotional learning (SEL) programs have demonstrated positive effects on children’s social-emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes, as well as classroom climate. Some programs also theorize that program impacts on children’s outcomes will be partially explained by improvements in classroom social processes, namely classroom emotional support and organi-zation. Yet there is little empirical evidence for this hypothesis. Using data from the evaluation of the SEL program INSIGHTS, this article tests whether assignment to INSIGHTS improved low-income kindergarten and first grade students’ math and reading achievement by first enhancing classroom emotional support and organization.

The Core Components of Evidence-Based Social Emotional Learning Programs
Implementing social emotional learning (SEL) programs in school settings is a promising approach to promote critical social and emotional competencies for all students. However, there are several challenges to implementing manualized SEL programs in schools, including program cost, competing demands, and content that is predetermined and cannot be tailored to individual classroom needs. Identifying core components of evidence-based SEL programs may make it possible to develop more feasible approaches to implementing SEL in schools.

The sociology of education and digital technology: Past, present and future
During the past 15 years of his career, John Furlong’s research and writing has focused—in part —on digital technologies and people’s everyday experiences of education. While hardly a technol-ogy expert, his work has shown an acute awareness of the significance of computers, the internet and mobile telephony in making sociological sense of education. Theory and Evidence on Governance: conceptual and empirical strategies of research on governance in education
During the last 20 years many European education systems have seen profound changes in the way they are governed. This also applies to the school systems of German-speaking countries which until then had been characterized by a long period of stability. Both political rhetoric and actual changes have rightly attracted increased attention of educational researchers, resulting in a growing body of work on the ‘governance’ of schooling. There is no such word as ‘governance’ in the German language. Nevertheless, a type of studies called ‘Governance Studies’, ‘Governance Research’ or ‘Governance Perspective’ has recently evolved in German-speaking social sciences.
