Corridor, Sarnath Banerjee’s first graphic novel, which was excitedly and somewhat erroneously hailed as the first graphic novel in India when it was published in 2004, told a story about wan-dering – mostly languid and purposeless – in the city of Delhi. Eleven years later, Banerjee’s fourth graphic novel All Quiet in Vikaspuri too is set in the capital city, but is concerned less with wandering and obsessed more with a quest. The mythic quest here is palpably real, and reflective of what Delhiites actually do embark on an everyday basis, so much so that they have made it an inevitable and unquestioned part of their daily routine and existence. Banerjee’s All Quiet in Vikaspuri is a quest into finding and retaining water supply in Delhi.
